Job Description:

Reporting to the School Principal, this position is responsible for providing instruction in the use of various instruments, music theory basics, and voice training.

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in piano, with prior experience as a piano teacher preferred
  • Ability to train students in the use of other musical instruments an asset
  • Ability to provide voice training
  • Good understanding of music theory
  • An understanding of different music genres
  • Fluency in Cree an asset
  • An understanding of traditional Cree music and song
  • A demonstrated knowledge and understanding of First Nations culture, organizations, and communities
  • An understanding of the internet and community resources available to promote an understanding of various instruments and types of music
  • A passion for music and music history and its place in Cree and other cultures
  • An understanding of the impact of technology on current music trends
  • Ability to passionately promote an appreciation for music
  • Prior experience arranging music performances
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other applications required by the role
